Story
I am hoping to walk - and if i can't walk it all then crawl or hobble - 107 km in 24hrs (this April) which is an exceptionally long way in a short period of time. I have not completed one marathon in my life and this is approaching the length of 3!
This distance is the circumference of the Isle of Wight so that's where it's happening.... for one long day and night of perpetual walking motion. I'm doing it with a close group of friends with the aim of raising money for a fantastic cause - Camp Simcha.
The reason: When my close friends 5 year old daughter Gracie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at the start of 2016, their world was turned upside down. Gracie had been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and two and a half years of treatment lay ahead (all whilst caring for two other children).
Camp Simcha came to meet them in the early days at Great Ormond Street hospital and it was clear from the very start that the support that they offered would be invaluable. The team at Camp Simcha includes some of the most kind and caring individuals who have supported and continue to support families through some very difficult periods. The children were introduced to their CS 'big brothers and sisters’ who visited them at home and made them feel so special. Art therapy sessions were the perfect distraction for Gracie whilst she was receiving her treatment and unable to socialise or attend school.
Camp Simcha do all that they can to make a distressing situations better. When the unexpected happens, Camp Simcha are there, whether it is delivering meals to hospital or arranging a day trip for the the other kids when mummy and daddy are not around.
Camp Simcha is a small and very special charity and they require ongoing funds to continue providing invaluable support to families.
