Story
Hi guys,
I finally did it - I sold my moped and bought a bicycle! For someone who doesn't like to walk or exercise, it took a lot of convincing. In the end, I did it for two reasons.
The first was my Mrs, she told me that my one mile journey to work, twice a week doesn't justify me in having a moped and that she insisted that I stop living this extravagant lifestyle (I think she is right).
The second reason was that my wife wanted me to help her to raise money for the work she so passionately cares about: Campaigning for the world's poor and oppressed through the charity she works for - the World Development Movement (WDM). Please read more about them: www.wdm.org.uk and become a supporter in what they do!
The Bible has many references to point out that God cares about those in vulnerable positions - the cancellation of debt through the year of jubilee (Leviticus 25 and 27), the use of dishonest scales - greed (Leviticus 19:35, Amos 8:5), feeding the poor - generosity and care (Leviticus 23:22), reaching out to the poor, oppressed - compassion (Isaiah 61:1-2). The World Development Movement is a charity that runs campaigns to tackle the root causes of global poverty and injustice.
We may not have the expertise or experience to influence the government policies but we can support WDM financially for the work they do and take simple actions from their website.
God is a God of compassion, so shouldn't we be compassionate too? By giving generously, it's a blessing to the poor.
I want to say a big thank you for the people who have supported me so far. Thank you so much for your generosity!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
