Story
Charity has always been an integral part of our football club, uniting the Celtic Family around the world in collectively-held values and beliefs.
As a stadium tour guide at Celtic Park, and an author, editor and publisher of Celtic books, I am privileged to be able to share the history of our club with supporters and friends all over the world on a daily basis. A key part of that history is the origins of the club’s formation back in 1887, Brother Walfrid and the Founding Fathers using football as a ‘vehicle for good’ to help folk struggling in the most difficult of circumstances. What a way to start the club which means the world to us.
More than 130 years later, that Spirit of Walfrid is alive and well, in the form of the incredible work carried out both locally and globally by the staff and supporters of Celtic FC Foundation, and I want to do my bit to keep that going. On Monday, 17 April 2023 - Patriot’s Day, I will run the Boston Marathon to raise funds for the Foundation. I am happy-ish to get there and do the running part but I am looking for your support to ensure that the Foundation benefits from our efforts.
This will be my seventh marathon, the third of which I have run on behalf of the Foundation, following New York City in 2018 then Tokyo in 2019. The pandemic has delayed my final outing at that distance but now it’s here. The Last Dance. I’ll do so wearing the Hoops with pride and together we can make a difference.
If you are in a position to help by making a donation, then anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated, and will help make some burdens just that touch lighter.
Thanks in advance,
Matt 🍀
