Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan.

This challenge has come from my students. One day Hannah Rees and Rachel Perry came in to my classroom and asked me would I be willing to shave my head for cancer and how much was it worth!!

Not your average request on a Tuesday afternoon. It took me 2.1 seconds to say yes and £ 3000. There are many reasons:

Caroline Peek our Assistant Principal told me that if you do something for Charity , the act should really be significant! Those who know me..will understand this act seriously is!

Secondly my mother, Morina , who was an awesome woman , developed Breast Cancer when I was 12.In those days survival rates were low, and we lost her when she was only 57.I wish she was here now and I knew her as an adult.

Thirdly, Tweeky, my best mate from University, now an Inspector with Avon And Somerset Police was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago.She had her mastectomy and battled and beat the cancer with phenomenal grace and courage. I always told her Cancer had picked on the wrong person this time!! Her diagnosis was a turning point in my life..

Fourthly  and most importantly , I am doing it for all the brave students that I have taught that have lost a parent to Cancer .Harri,LLyr,Cai,Rhys,Ifan,Thomas,,,,these are just a few names ...in a sea of students whose mothers and fathers were taken away ...way too early.

On my 50th Birthday , I had a party in our Barn! It was called Mary's Happy to be Alive at 50 party...I really meant it.

We have a duty to live each day to the best of our ability , and to do this in honour of the ones who have had their 'life's thread'  cut short.

So make sure you Carpe every Diem that come in your life...( For Ffion Morina Rees-Owens...my niece ..this is Carpe Diem...Latin for Seize the Day!!!)...

I hope this gives you an insight into the reasons why I'm Braving the Shave.

Hopefully Gwenda Owen will be my Hairdresser come Shearer on Friday the 13th of January...already sounds scary!!

Please give as much as you can to help MacMillan....
