St Luke's Hospice - Midnight Walk 2011 · 30 July 2011 ·
YES! I AM DOING IT AGAIN, THE ST LUKES HALF MARATHON MIDNIGHT WALK ON SATURDAY JULY 30th
I am walking 13 miles in the middle of the night in aid of St Lukes.
The walk starts at midnight and we will walk up hill and down dale around the Plymouth area.....the middle of the night is not my best time for a walk so it is quite a challenge!
The provision of hospice care is so important and I have spent the last 25 years being the Lead Consultant and Medical Director of St Lukes Hospice in Plymouth. The hospice gives amazing high quality care for those with advanced life threatening illnesses. Its network of care stretches far beyond the walls of the Hospice inpatient unit reaching out to more than 2,000 patients each year in their homes, care homes and in hospital. Alongside the specialist medical and nursing care, patients are also offered practical, financial, emotional and spiritual support. In the last 5 years, I have played a large part in creating and building a sucessful and much needed St Lukes Hospital Palliative Care service. Many people sadly die in hospital and deserve as high a level of care as can be given.
Government funding covers less than 30% of the cost of caring for inpatients. The hospice therefore has to raise at least £3.5 million every year so the fundraising never stops! That is why your donation and support is so important.
As a registered charity, St Luke's is passionate about offering its patients dignity and choice at a time in their lives when they may feel they have none. The vision is to provide the best end of life care to all patients wherever they choose to be - Hospice, Hospital or Home.
So please dig deep and donate now.
