Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

First, let me tell you what I'm doing and why I'm doing it!

What:

I have set myself a challenge to run 7 half marathons in 7 weeks between 23 September and 4 November 2012.

Why CLIC Sargent:

In February 2011, my cousin's son (Logan Fullwood) was born with a cleft pallet. After a couple of operations to correct his mouth/lip, doctors then thought he may have a hernia (October 2011). Following further tests however, he was diagnosed with Wilms Disease (cancer of the kidney) on 17 February after finding a 4 inch tumour.  After a course of chemotherapy he had an operation to remove his kidney on 29 March. He is doing very well in his recovery and it is very much thanks to the work of the hospital staff and CLIC Sargent in helping the family through this tough time and doing all they can for Logan.

Why 7 in 7 weeks?:

In August 2011, I suddenly lost my father-in-law after he suffered a heart attack at just 58 years old. For such an active man it was a massive shock for us all! Unfortunately the bad luck did not stop there and on 16 March 2012, my father died very suddenly and in very similar circumstances (cardiac arrest). So in 7 months we've lost two very important people in our lives!

Having lost both father figures in just 7 months, I have set myself a challenge of running 7 half marathons in 7 weeks (7 in 7 months seemed too easy...) to mark the fact that both have gone in such a short space of time and to raise as much money as possible to help children like Logan.

My plan for the 7 races is as follows:

23 September              Weston Super Mare Half Marathon

30 September              Bristol Half Marathon

7 October                    Basingstoke Half Marathon

14 October                  Swindon Half Marathon

21 October                  Birmingham Half Marathon

28 October                  London Run to the Beat Half Marathon

4 November                 Stevenage Half Marathon

I know this is going to take a lot of effort to complete my challenge, but if Logan and other children like him are strong enough to go through chemotherapy at just 14 months old (and younger in some cases), then who am I to say that I can't do a bit of running!?
