I need your help!!! I need to raise $4,000 USD to participate! I will be taking part in a 21km race on 1st May, raising funds to train health workers in reducing newborn, child and maternal deaths in Ethiopia

 

The race is part of the EVERY ONE campaign, which aims to reduce under-five child and maternal mortality. 10% of all children in Ethiopia die before their 5^th birthday. Although the mortality rate has been severely reduced over the last 20 years, it is still one of the highest in the world!

 

Many deaths can be prevented with low-cost solutions;

•          38% of all the under-five deaths happen during the first month after birth

•          The most common reasons are diarrhoea and pneumonia

•          These causes have been largely eliminated in the Western world

 

One big problem is a lack of access to health workers

•          The vast majority of women (72%) do not visit a health institution during pregnancy

•          94% of Ethiopian women give birth at home

•          Only 5% of parents take their child for a postnatal (after birth) visit

 

The 21km race will take place on the 1st May in Hawassa, a city south of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
