Story

Amosou!  Thank you for taking the time to look at my page.

If you know me well, you will know that I am not at one with extreme exercise...in fact...you will know that I very much shy away from it.  Therefore, you will understand how TERRIFIED I am about this challenge!

In November I will, along with nearly 60 others, cycle 436km from Nairobi to Kisumu in only 5 days.  The route is not an easy one, fraught with dangerous roads, animals and many, many hills (we're cutting straight through the rift valley...).

Why? I hear you cry!  I have been working with the wonderful charity KOP for nearly two years and now it's my time to raise funds for what I can tell you with absolute certainty and a wealth of experience, is a wonderful cause.  The children we support in Kisumu are some of the most deserving in the world, children who face hardships every day. All these children want is food, clean water, an education and to be healthy: fundamental rights that you and I can easily take for granted but those which these children frequently go without and have to fight for.

More specifically, we are hoping we will raise enough funds for two projects that I know very well.  The first is Kunya Primary School where KOP initiated a feeding programme two years ago.  The majority of the school is made from traditional materials which mean they are prone to crumbling and are very dangerous to the small children trying to learn inside.  We want to build a safer, modern building that is more conducive to learning.

The other project is the Oasis of Hope Secondary School which is a very special project to me.  The school offers children from the poorest slum areas of Kisumu subsidised rates.  The children at the school are incredible bright and so desperate to learn but their situations mean that if it wasn't for the school, most would be unemployed, working in 'unsavoury' industries and many girls would have little other option than to marry early.  KOP has just rebuilt the classrooms at the school but with more help we can help these young people achieve more!  We want to build them a laboratory and a kitchen to ensure that the pupils are guaranteed at least one nutritious meal per day.

Do something special today: help us give hope to a child.

As much or as little as you can spare will be hugely appreciated by me, everyone at KOP and all of the projects.

Thank you, Erokamano, Asante sana xx
