Story
Choosing a charity is often influenced by personal reasons and can be an emotive decision. 10 years ago my father suffered a massive stroke and was given a slim chance of survival, let alone recovery. After surgery he was in a coma for over a week and spent almost 6 months in hospital where he had to learn to walk again, talk again and slowly regained parts of his memory. I’m immensely grateful to all the people who helped my father. To all the doctors, nurses, physios and care support workers who have helped and continue to help him. My father isn’t the same vibrant person he used to be, but he and our family have adapted and rebuilt our lives.
So in my year as Captain of Silvermere Golf Club I have chosen the Stroke Association who are a charity that provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.
