Martin Ward's 2014 Samaritans page

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 2014 · 10 August 2014 ·
I've entered the Great Notts Bike Ride June 22. Another 100, so well over 500 miles cycling for the Samaritans!
This year I am participating in three cycling events:
In 2013 I attended seven fatalities on the railway.
All were suicides. All deeply affected those involved: not just the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased; but particularly the driver and their family and friends.
Thousands of passengers have their journeys disrupted by fatalities, and the staff involved go through a deeply traumatic and upsetting experience. For some, it can be the end of their career.
The Samaritans are not just there to be a supportive voice on the end of the phone, but work with universities with research projects, and the rail industry and unions providing training for frontline staff who may have a suicidal contact, and training for those who support those sadly involved in a fatality.
