Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page, which has been created purely to facilitate on-line sponsors donations in relation to my Kilimanjaro climb in July 2010.
I REACHED THE SUMMIT AT 8.00a.m. ON 8th JULY.
(This page will remain 'open' for a while to allow further donations.)
The climb was organised to support the Sparkle Appeal, which is the charitable arm of the South Gwent Children’s Centre in High Cross, .
Whilst the centre is predominantly funded using Welsh Assembly Government capital funds, there are many facilities which the statutory funding will not provide. Therefore the charity was formed to ensure that not only do these children with complex disabilities have all the clinical facilities they need under one roof, but that they can use the range of facilities out-of-hours. In addition, extra facilities will be provided to cater for not only the children using the centre, but their parents and siblings too. The result will be a centre of excellence of which everyone can be proud. (Further details are available at www.sparkleappeal.org )
Some of you will know that I am both a Trustee and the Treasurer of this charity, and have been so since its inception. It is therefore a cause to which I am very close and committed. Hopefully the knowledge of boosting such a worthwhile cause will help me during the inevitably difficult times during the 5,895m ascent. We are to be guided by the same company that took the Comic Relief group to the top, using the Lemosho route, and will be away for twelve days in all. I will be one of 15 to 20 undertaking the challenge – and likely to be one of the oldest ! To reach the goal of the summit (the Uhuru ice-capped peak) will obviously be a significant personal achievement and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As I undertake this venture voluntarily, being Trustee and Treasurer, I believe it only right that I self-finance the entire cost of the trip. Consequently, I can guarantee that every penny you are able to give will go directly to the Sparkle Appeal.
Donating through JustGiving is both simple and secure. Please also ensure that you indicate that you are a taxpayer, as Gift Aid can then be claimed on your donation –benefiting the charity to an even greater degree.
Please support me in this challenge, to whatever degree you are able. Any donation will be gratefully received and very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Martin
