105 Mile Charity Run For Hospice
Three Dallam Runners Tom Philips (Managing Director of PCS Websites), Dr Martin Gardiner (GP at Coastal Medical Group in Morecambe), and Neil woods (Risk Manager at Exova) will run 105 miles nonstop around the Lakeland fells , in the Montane Lakeland 100 race at the end of July this year in aid of St John’s Hospice in Lancaster, they will be joined by friends and fellow runners Colin Smyth from Liverpool and Lee Knight from Andover.
The Hospice does invaluable work for terminally ill patients across the area, and relies heavily on charitable donations.
All three are experienced Ultra distance athletes, having successfully completed the famous “Bob Graham round” in 2011 amongst other events. Tom Philips being 1 of only 4 people in history to complete the Bob Graham Round (Summer and Winter), Scotland’s Ramsay and Wales’s Paddy Buckley Rounds in 1 year all under 24 hrs.
1 Month later Dr Gardiner will also travel out to Chamonix to compete in the “Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc”, Europe’s toughest Trail race covering 110 miles and 32,000 ft of ascent and descent passing through the Alps of France, Switzerland and Italy before returning back to France, large chunks of the race being at altitude.
Tom said “we have done a lot of long races together but never as far as this in one go ,we face the prospect of running through 2 nights nonstop without sleep, it will be a big challenge, but we hope to raise some money for the vital resource of the Hospice to support the great work they do with patients”
