Story
This June I am heading out to Tanzania for three months to be a volunteer photographer for Rayleigh International, a sustainable development charity who run projects in Africa, Asia and South America.
Raleigh runs expeditions which consist of challenging programmes that empower diverse groups of young people (17-25) to contribute to sustainable development projects. I am looking forward to being part of a team of volunteers of different nationalities and backgrounds. We will all be challenged to be the best we can and become part of a global community who care about building a sustainable future.
In order for me to take part I have to raise money through sponsorship. I am not just asking for money as I feel I need to do something more to earn it, so I have come up with a personal challenge.
Having done a marathon a year for the past three years I had planned to take this year off, however, I have now decided to throw that idea out of the window.
As someone who regularly pounds the towpaths of the Grand Union Canal, and knowing that it goes all the way to Birmingham, I have been curious for some time as to what the rest of the route is like and now I am going to finally find out. I am going to run the 137 mile route from Birmingham to London over five days, which means I will be doing, on average, a Marathon a day.
