Story
Hi there!
Some who may know me and my running exploits, you would have seen me run and complete 4 World Marathon Majors. Now, just when I thought it was safe to take time out from training for another marathon, I will now be running London 2015!!! :)
This time however, the challenge will be with a greater purpose as I will be running for MacMillan Cancer Research, a well known and deserved charity, who have created millions of pounds into the research and support of this deadly disease that almost everyone has been affected by either personally, or by someone close to them.
On a personal point of view, Macmillan gave me my first taste of Marathon running way back in New York 2011 and since then I have got addicted (if you can call it that!) and completed 4 of 6 World Marathon Majors:
- New York - November 2011 (4:42 my first Marathon)
- Berlin - September 2013 ( 3:49 my first sub 4 hours)
- Tokyo - February 2014 (3:32 my PB)
- Chicago - October 2014 (4:11 ran with the flu!!)
London Marathon has always been the one I wanted to run since I was a kid, after seeing it on the TV so many times every year, so I'm really excited about this one!
I will also be running with a wealth of experienced runners from Team Des McKeon, who have been running and charity raising for MacMillan for a long time. Des in particular has raised a fantastic amount for the charity, around £200,000 in 5 years and is always trying to achieve more fund raising. Also, I will have the privilege of running alongside Rena Wiggins, an absolute inspiration for me in my first Marathon and to many others, Rena will be running her 16th World Major at the right young age of 73 years old!!
So off I go now and start the cold winter training eeekkk, it's all good fun!! (apparently!! 😄 )
See you at the start line!!
Mark
