On Friday September 16th I intend to step into a boxing ring at the sprightly age of 48 and attempt to avoid an opposing gentleman repeatedly smash me in the face with his fists. As I prepare for this one-sided contest over the next 10 brutal weeks of training, I would dearly love to raise some money for Barnardo's along the way.

Not only do they carry out some incredible work helping the UK's most vulnerable children, but they have set up a Ukrainian support helpline to assist those families fleeing the invasion.

I am very thankful for the help this country gave my grandparents when they too were displaced from Ukraine during the horrors of the Second World War. Any tiny step I can make toward repaying that debt and help innocent children then I would like to try.
