Story
I have decided to mark the 30th anniversary of my joining the ranks of the Royal Marines by tackling an ultra marathon that just happens to be twice the distance of the final commando test. The event takes place over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of July 2022 and is almost thirty years to the day that I rode that train to Lympstone Commando and started my basic training at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines.
So what better way to celebrate this landmark anniversary than attempting two 30 milers back to back and with the added bonus of being accompanied by a former Paratrooper (who by the way is far younger than me) Dom Farley.
Our intention is to "speed march" the 60 mile route, now this entails running on the flat and any downhill sections and a "brisk" march on any up hill parts.. all this in boots and wearing the clothing and equipment (webbing with 21lbs of weight) that we both wore in basic training and while serving in our respective branches of the military.
Dom and I will be doing this in a "oner" as they say with scheduled stops along the course for fuel and any maintenance that may be required so we will be going through the night and supported by a team of friends with food, drink and harsh words to keep us going.
I'll stop waffling now but thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, and I know times are tough but if you could make a donation no matter how big or small it would be really appreciated.
