Story

Educate and Evaluate:

Improve mental health support

Its great to see you here! I'm trying to help make a real difference to people suffering effects of mental illness. Veterans, dementia, bi - polar, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, stress, anxiety to name just a few.

  • Sufferers die up to 20 years younger compared with the rest of the population – not just from suicide but from preventable physical illnesses

RETHINK work tirelessly to provide funding to correcting these imbalances using community projects, support groups and help.

Here's what I have been doing to support them:

4/4/11 update

Running on its own is up to 40 hours covering 280 miles on foot since January, plenty of gym work too. I have burned 59,000 calories and lost 2 stone of weight to lighten me up for the run. Together, the 5 runners for RETHINK have rasied over 10,000.

Longest run 21 miles

Average run 10/12 miles

Short run 5 miles

Nearly there folks!

UPDATE: 20/3
So far I have logged 173 miles of running since the beginning of Jan

85 miles on the Crosstraining machine at the gym

7 miles of swimming

25 miles on bikes

19/3 I ran with my friend Laura from my house in Dorchester over the hill to Weymouth and back, a round trip of 21 miles on the route that we took.

I have lost 21 pounds of weight since I started training for RETHINK Marathon and now feel fairly confident that I can run the full length of the marathon.

I am concentrating on the fndraising part now and hoping to meet my target by putting in a big push by the end of March and beginning of April.

Update : Mon 21st Feb.

Lost 3llbs weight this week,

Milestone, pushed through 100 mile barrier in miles run in training since start Jan.

Week Com 14th Feb.

20 miles run in trainng

+ 3 gym sessions

I have been training hard and enjoying the challenge. I go swimming at least once a week, Gym two or three times a week, circuits once per week, yoga once per week, running 4 times a week.

I have been logging my progress in the good running guide website where I have a private page. Starting off well overweight at about 13.10 stone I have managed to get down to 12.10 stone now in the first 5 weeks which I am really proud. I am running up to about 10 miles now and swim a mile before the day starts at 7 am.

If you do sponser/ give toward Rethink you will be releasing the creativity and talent of some amazing people who deserve the support of such a fantastic, forward thinking, refreshing Charity that looks after the vulnerable people that could be you or I next year by no fault of own own. I should know. I've been there.

Rethink is the largest national voluntary sector provider of mental health services with almost 300 services and 147 support groups. Our services help over 4,000 people every day.

Please give something, even pennies are better than nothing!

Many, many, many thanks,

Mark Meyer
