Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thanks for taking time to read why I am doing this and why this particular cause is so important to me.
My great friend and excellent musician Mr Simon Pollard has been trying to get me to do the Virgin Triathlon for a fair few years and much to my shame I have always declined believing I could not find the time to train. The challenge is a 1 mile open water swim in the London Docklands followed by a 30 mile cylcle and completed with 6 mile run. I am now a lean mean cycling/running/swimming machine but I needed a push....
Unfortunately in July of 2012 after much treatment for a chest infection my Dad Mick Levick was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. As is for all families this was a massive shock but my dads strength and positivity gave us all hope and he began to have treatment and we all looked hopefully towards the new year when my sister Katie would be getting married .
Treatment did not go well and was stopped my mum and dad had visits to A&E and stays in the general hospital with him given only given hours to live it was an incredibly scary time and my dad kept fighting with my mum always at his side fortunately a bed became available at the Rotherham Hospice and it became his new home.
The room was spacious and comfortable with a great view of the playing fields but the best thing about the place was the fantastic people who worked there many of them volunteers.
The care and support they gave to the whole family was excellent, many of them volunteers they gave us hope in the worst of situations, helped my dad retain his dignity and gave the family a comfortable place to spend what would be our final christmas morning together. My dad passed away on the morning of the 27th of December and one of his last wishes was that we raise money for the the Hospice.
