Story
My Mum was diagnosed with Terminal Lung Cancer in January 2016. As a family this was a huge shock, but mum being mum she took it all in her stride. She agreed to a very intensive course of Chemotherapy followed by Radiotherapy which really knocked her for six, but throughout it all she stayed extremely positive and absolutely determined that the cancer wasn’t going to beat her.
I honestly believe that this positive mindset was a big reason why mum survived for such a long time. Mum’s Oncologist and Katie & Josie the two amazing MacMillan nurses who have been with Mum since day one used to call her their Miracle patient because she kept fighting the good fight with strength, dignity and positivity.
Unfortunately as the years went by Mum got weaker and weaker as the cancer progressed. Even at this stage Mum was determined to stay positive.
Sadly mum finally lost her battle on 1st September 2023. It was a blessing in the end and mum was finally at peace.
The support we, as a family have had from the MacMillan nurses has been amazing, not just the support they gave mum but the support they gave to all of us, they really are an amazing bunch of people. Sadly we are one of literally 1,000's of family each year who need and benefit from the care and support they offer. Every penny we can raise together is vital for the charity to continue its work supporting patients and their family through the most horrendous of times.
