Story
In March 2020 - not be outdone by the population at large - I was an early adopter of 'Let's get Covid really badly brigade'.
At a time when no one knew much about this new and terrible disease I found myself being rushed to hospital in an ambulance and very quickly in ICU on Life-support - surrounded by poor buggers who were significantly worse off than me.
Somehow - I managed to recover quite quickly (10 days) and through the incredible intensive and unrelenting care and expertise I received I left hospital alive and in reasonable shape.
Since that time NHS workers and in particular ICU workers have born the brunt of the biggest medical and humanitarian crisis in modern history.
It was not only my own experiences but also a passing comment of an old pal - who is a senior consultant at one of Londons biggest hospitals. When I asked how he was faring he simply said to me - quietly - that he was a broken man. This was a big robust rugby playing school chum and I was shocked at just how much this is affecting him and all those on the front line
I hope if we can raise some money we can somehow and in some small way repay our debt of gratitude and help ensure our kids and future generations receive the same care and support.
