Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I first came across IntoUniversity when Mills & Reeve provided financial support for its work to raise the aspirations of children and young people most at risk of educational failure. My daughter, Alice, became a volunteer on its academic support programme when she was working in London.
The UK has one of the widest educational and social achievement gaps in the world. Among Britain's poorest families, research by the Sutton Trust shows that only 1 in 40 students will progress to a top university compared with 1 in 4 from the country's wealthiest families. What's more, children from disadvantaged backgrounds with low levels of educational attainment are almost five times more likely to live in poverty in adulthood (Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission).
IntoUniversity operates through 22 centres across the country and demand for places at them is high, with significant waiting lists in some areas. Your contribution to my £2000 target will therefore enable the charity to extend its work, and children and young people from the poorest homes to achieve their full potential.
Many thanks.
