Story
It’s time once again for my annual charity run. Last year, I raised over £400 for the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Thanks to everyone who sponsored me.
This year, I’m raising money for another charity close to my heart - Animals Asia. From 5th July–4th August, I’ll be undertaking a charity run and walk, the latter with our black lab, Ben. Over the month, I’m aiming to cover 100 miles, and raise funds to help Animals Asia build their new bear sanctuary in Vietnam.
Animals Asia is devoted to ending bear bile farming. Due to their work with the Vietnam government, bear bile farming is now illegal, however there remain 300 caged bears on farms in Vietnam all waiting to be rescued. Animals Asia is building a new sanctuary to house all 300 bears, and the money I raise will go towards this wonderful project. Any donation, small or large, will make a difference to bears who live their whole lives in small cages, their bile regularly extracted from their gall bladder by a needle, often in unsanitary conditions without anaesthetic - and all to feed a dying market for traditional Asian medicines. In the sanctuary the bears will have the health care they need, and a new life climbing trees, relaxing in swimming pools and playing with other bears.
