After over 30 years loyal and dedicated service to the University of Bristol I am moving on. In celebration of my service to the University and in lieu of leaving gifts I would request that friends and colleagues support the RNLI.  A charity which I have supported for several decades. I have always had great admiration of the courage of the crews. I can not swim - having a fear of water so that makes them even more special. It was as a young adult that I remember very vividly the tragedy, some 30 years ago this Christmas, of the loss of the Penlee lifeboat and its entire crew and those of the ship they had set to rescue.
