Story
Thanks for visiting our RR Team Warwick fundraising page.
Earlier this year on 28th April I was part of the RR Warwick Team that ran the Derby 10Km to raise money and awareness of JDRF, a charity I knew little about until we started this journey.
By the time we had completed the Derby 10Km run the Warwick team had raised over £2,000 for JDRF. I have uploaded a few of the photos on this page.
Later that day a number of us entered into the Birmingham Great Run (13 miles) on 20th October 2013 and then on the following day entered the ballot for the 2014 London Marathon (26 Miles).
I’ve joined the fund raising page set up my Mark Conlin to raise money for JDRF, a charity that is trying to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. This is an auto-immune disease for which there is currently no cure. People with type 1 diabetes have to inject themselves with insulin numerous times each day just to stay alive.
Now imagine if your son or daughter, or a friends son and daughter, had to measure everything they ate, calculate the carbohydrate content of their food, take the corresponding dose of insulin using an injection and prick their finger to test for sugar at least 10 times every day for the rest of their life.
Mark Conlins son, Matthew was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on 6th September 2010, when he was just 6 years old.
Matthew recently asked his dad to help find a permanent cure for his diabetes. His challenge was to run a marathon. We gathered a team from experienced runners to absolute beginners and RR Team Warwick was created. We ran the 10Km in April and raised over £2,000 for JDRF. We had not realised The JDRF sponsor is "Pingu". Watch out for "Team Pingu" in October!
This is where we need your help. Every £1 helps.
Thank you.
