Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Mark Bamforth i am raising funds for my son Nicholas Bamforth to go to St Louis Childrens Hospital for treatment and Physiotherapy for Cerebral Palsy.

Here is his story.

In february 2013 Nicholas travelled to St Louis for surgery called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) and subsequent othropeadic surgery.

Nicholas is 10 years and was born with Cerebral Palsy. He has spent much of his life in pain and frustated at not being able to do the things his friends do.

We reasearched an operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) performed by a wonderful surgeon called Dr T S Park at The St Louis Children’s Hospital in the U.S.A . The hospital has an amazing success rate with 100% of patients permanently reducing spasticity.

The SDR operation permanently removed all the tightness (spasticity) in his body and with othropeadic surgery on his hamstring and achillies helped him  gain flat feet for the first time in his life. These operations enabled him to start to weight bare and begin the long journey on walking unaided.

After returning home in March to continue with Physio he snapped his Achilles and this meant we returned to St. Louis for a further three months. Nicholas worked very hard everyday over this time and made great progress and we were able to return back home in July. He continued to work hard over the summer in Physio and in September returned back to school and his friends.

SDR has changed the life of Nicholas dramatically. His day to day life has become easier and constantly achieves new things which were not possible before the operation.

In the July of 2015 Nicholas will be returning back to St Louis to undergo the last of his othropeadic surgery and 2 weeks of Intense Physio.

Despite of all his challenges Nicholas is just a normal bubbly little boy with lots of friends, but with your help and support his future could be a lot brighter with this life changing opportunity.

The operation, travel, accommodation and intensive after care will cost over £20,000 and the NHS will not help with any of the costs. We hope with your support we will reach this target.

So please dig deep and donate now.
