Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Now I am retired I plan to fill my days with adventure, excitement and charitable acts.
My first step will be to take the walk of a lifetime, trekking along the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas. All sponsorship raised will go to the Wakefield Hospice. The trek will cover a distance of 27miles, ascending to an altitude of 4,600 metres. It will take 4 days to complete and will be an enormous personal and physical challenge. The Wakefield Hospice is an intrinsic part of our community and provides support and care to families when they are at their most vulnerable. My family and I were lucky enough to benefit from these invaluable services when my husband John received palliative care in 1991, not long after the Hospice opened its doors. 19 years on the Hospice is celebrating its 20th Anniversay and I see this challenge as a fitting tribute to John’s memory and the wonderful service that the Hospice provides. I will be covering the cost of the trip myself therefore every penny raised will go directly to the Hospice, so please give generously. I have always considered myself active but by no stretch of the imagination fit, so your sponsorship will also encourage me as I train over the next few months to achieve the fitness levels to take on this big challenge in September. You can follow my training progress if you wish on my blog at http://marilynmonaghan.blogspot.com/ Thank you in advance for your support and wish me luck, I might just need it!
