Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am indebted to the staff at Hinchingbrooke SCBU for acting so swiftly after the birth of our son Johan.
He was 13 days overdue and arrived via the 'sun-roof' after a 16 hour labour.
He took 7 minutes to 'pink up' and the SCBU team reacted swiftly and calmly to stabilise him and reassure both his Dad and I.
At 5 hours old he was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia, one lung was not inflated and his heart was in the wrong place - apart from this at 7lb 11oz he was a strong boy!
Johan was kept stable overnight before being transferred to another hospital for an operation. Just a week later Johan and I were transferred back to Hinchingbrooke SCBU for the remainder of his recovery.
I have fond memories of our time in the unit; the encouragement for us as parents to care for our son in spite of the wires and alarms and the warm embrace that the nurses offered us as a family.
I was nervous to leave the security of the unit and wished I could take the nurses home with us.
Johan turns 3 years old at the end of July. He's a happy, bright, handsome and funny (if not a little too cheeky!) little boy. He loves cars and anything with wheels and has brought his Dad and I immeasurable joys.
