Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here at Bamford Dental Practice we have been busy doing Dementia Awareness Training.
Unfortunately in 2018 there were 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is expected to increase to over 2 million by 2051.
One person is diagnosed every 3 minutes and 1/6 of people over 80 have dementia.
Many of our patients and loved ones will experience this difficult condition over the coming years.
We have been learning about how difficult it can be for those suffering with dementia and their families to carry out day to day duties.
The dementia patient maybe confused, angry and vulnerable.
It can be challenging for families to take the patient to the dentist and to maintain good oral health.
We have been learning how as a practice we can best support those suffering with dementia and their families to still attend the dentist when possible for their essential oral health checks and dental treatment.
Dementia UK is a charity that provides much needed practical support to families experiencing dementia by sending in Admiral nurses to help in homes, care homes and hospices.
My challenge is to beat my personal best time of 1 hour 58 minutes - so please wish me luck!
