We support young people fighting cancer to live their best life

Story

I now have a confirmed date for my  charity overnight cell lock-in: 6pm on Friday 11th November 2022. Hopefully they will release me the next morning, if I have been a compliant inmate. I think it might be quite cold as they are allowing us to wear thermals underneath the prison issue inmate suite.

A very big thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, with their kind words, and especially those who have made donations. It’s now only 10 days away so I’m getting a bit nervous as they will be taking my mug shot and  finger prints before finally locking me up 🤪.

I’m not built to run a marathon, swim the channel or cycle to Land’s End but I’m hoping you might donate to keep me locked in a prison cell overnight.

All of us have been touched by people fighting cancer but this charity is particularly close to my heart as I know a family where both children have had to fight cancer, not genetic, completely randomly both diagnosed, proving that this can happen to any of us and Teens Unite supported them throughout. Every day in the UK seven young people hear the words “you have cancer”. The impact of a diagnosis is long-lasting and for those in their teens and early twenties their friendships, education, confidence and emotional wellbeing are all affected.

When life is put on hold and becomes consumed by fear, isolation and survival, Teens Unite enables 13-24 year olds to continue living their lives in the best way possible, by organising activities and residential stays designed to help young people overcome the long-term effects of cancer and its treatment. They make new friends, learn new skills and embrace new challenges in a safe and supportive space, without the ‘c’ word holding them back, bringing them together so they don’t have to face their battle alone.

Teens Unite offices are within a former police station, with 16 single, original cells. I will be read my crime at the custody desk and put under arrest. They will take my fingerprints and mug shot and I will have to wear a convict suit, having been checked for any contraband. I will face police questioning for my crime, be allowed to make one phone call home to break the news of my crime and then taken to a cell to serve my time. Hopefully I will behave well and be allowed to walk free the next day.

I hope you will join me in supporting this wonderful charity by donating whatever you can, no matter how small.

Thank you for your time in reading this and for whatever support, verbally or otherwise, you can give, as every pound raised will make a difference to a young person fighting cancer and every word of support will help me get through a long night.
