Story

I and four other members of the dZi Foundation UK/Ride for Nepal cycling team will be attempting an ‘Everesting’ cycle event on July 19  in Somerset, UK.

This event is a non-stop push to gain 8,848 meters in elevation on a single hill. I anticipate the effort to take upwards of fifteen hours of continuous riding, and to cover over 300 kilometers in total. We have set a goal of raising at least £8,848 pounds on the day of the event to support remote communities in Nepal.

‘Everesting’ is the latest and most serious of a wave of extreme endurance cycling events. The idea was founded by George Mallory, the grandson of the famous mountaineer, and has been successfully accomplished by less than 100 individuals to date. This attempt marks the second attempt by a team of greater than 2 people.

£115 will construct a sanitary toilet, transforming the health of a family of five. Our toilet projects have reduced incidences of diarrheal disease by 50%.

·      £600 will pay for the formation of a Parent Teacher Association at a rural school. These committees revolutionize how schools are managed, increase student attendance, and improve the educational environment for everyone. On average, 87 community members actively participate in a PTA.

·      £4,500 will pay for a drinking water system that brings clean water to a community. This not only leads to immediate health improvements, but also saves time for women and children by eliminating the need to travel upwards of one hour each way to fetch water.

·      £8,848 will be enough to construct an earthquake-safe four-room school building, giving the gift of education to over 120 students each year.

Our dZi UK Ride Team goes further so that we can go further and change lives in Nepal. Thank you for helping make this possible.
