Trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro = the highest 'walkable' mountain in the world.
We are raising money for ADRA = Adventist Development and Relief Agency.(Click for Video)
Around two years ago the idea came to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. At that time it would be fun holiday and an achievement...two years later we now think it will be just an achievement!
On 12Jan2012 we start the 7 day trek up the Mount to the snow covered Uhuru Peak at 19,341ft which is the same height planes fly at! For those of you interested we are climbing via the Lemosho route which is the same remote track used by the comic relief Kilimanjaro team in 2009 (including the 300m Barranco wall climb).
Our biggest enemy will be the altitude! (more details below)

Mountain altitudes are divided into three zones ... high, very high and extreme, this trek involves extreme altitudes. Air at the summit of Kilimanjaro contains only about half the amount of oxygen that it does at sea level. Altitude sickness is caused by the failure of the body to adapt quickly enough to this reduced level of oxygen as one gains altitude. It is likely that we will experience some form of altitude sickness at some point whilst climbing Kilimanjaro. Unlike other extreme peaks such as those in the Himalaya, the summit of Kilimanjaro is approached in just a few days, leaving very little time for the body to adjust, with some success rates reported lower than 50% for reaching the peak. This is what makes this mountain so difficult and potentially dangerous.
ADRA improves the lives of people around the world. The agency searches out deprivation, social injustice, and need—then works to eliminate them. ADRA invests in the potential of individuals through advocacy, supporting families, promoting health, providing food and water, establishing livelihoods, and responding to emergencies.
