Story
Our story:
With thanks to the hospice for their support and providing care for my dad in the community so he could stay at home longer. We had the care needed and equipment ordered for my dad to be able to stay safe and be at home. The charity was very generous and the staff were amazing in keeping us feel supported during the time in need.
No one expected the rapid deterioration dad went through that the support was very short but worthwhile and appreciated. The staff were exceptional and understanding and asked how we were as a family.
My sister and I would like to thank the hospice by raising money whilst getting back to our passion, that is running and doing the Richmond Runfest seems very fitting as our dad passed away at Richmond ward at the hospital through our choice, rather than at home.
By completing the half marathon, it will inspire us back to training and the importance of looking after our wellbeing, physical and mental health. Going through the trauma of watching dad become weak when he was an active man who enjoyed visiting the chinese community and chatting to his friends.
We will be running in memory of our dad and thanking the support that the hospice provided as well as other help that works jointly with the hospice. This will be hard work as I have not run more than 5km for a while so definitely a tough but achievable challenge.
You realise you are not alone and that help will always be available in time of need.
Thank you for reading our story and your donations made which will help others in similar position.
From the hospice:
We believe that every moment matters, so we go above and beyond to help our patients and their families make the most of every moment they have left. Hospice care is as much about living as it is about dying. We want to give our patients the time and support they need to make informed decisions about how they die. We’ll continue to be there after death, for those close to them, providing specialist emotional and practical support, no matter their age. Last year we cared for 2,500 people at the hospice and out in the community.
