Fundraising for RSPB
The Malham Peregrine Project is a partnership project between the RSPB and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
Peregrine falcons have been nesting on the dramatic limestone cliffs of Malham Cove since 1993, and for 11 years staff and volunteers have been on site during the spring and summer to show visitors to the Cove these fantastic birds of prey. Each year, the project wows thousands of visitors with close up views of these amazing birds as they bring up their young.
Although the peregrines are the stars of the show, the viewpoint offers an excellent opportunity for visitors to get to grips with some of the other wildlife which calls Malham home - redstarts will spend the spring establishing territories around the Cove, before bringing young to feed in bushes around the viewpoint; a resident pair of green woodpeckers often give spectacular views as they feed out in the open; and little owls have also nested close by. Two or three pairs of spotted flycatchers are present each summer, whilst house martins, swifts and the occassional buzzard soar overhead.
