Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running 100km in the month of October, and have decided to fundraise for the Equine Grass Sickness Fund.

Grass Sickness is a disease of horses, ponies and donkeys in which there is damage to parts of the nervous system which control involuntary functions, producing the main symptom of gut paralysis. The cause is unknown but the nature of the damage to the nervous system suggests that a type of toxin is involved. The toxin is yet to be found, and there is no cure or effective vaccine. In most cases, Grass Sickness is fatal.

I have seen first hand the heartbreak Grass Sickness can cause. Some of my most horrible memories as a vet are having to tell owners their much loved horse will not survive, and that there is not a single thing we can even try to change that.

I hope that in my lifetime a cure will be found so that Grass Sickness can be a thing of the past.
