Story
For those of you who don’t know, I suffer with a condition called seronegative antiphospholipids syndrome (APS) as well as migraines. APS has only recently been diagnosed whereas I’ve struggled with migraines since I was about 5.
This means that most of the time I generally have low lying headaches and fatigue and sometimes nausea and joint pain. I go through phases of feeling well in myself and then having periods where I’m feeling worse and sometimes this triggers migraines. Since I was about 5 I have generally suffered from migraines with aura, however since about 2018 they have developed into Hemiplegic Migraines.
As a result, I’ve decided that I want to fundraise for The Migraine Trust so that I can raise more awareness for migraines as they are not “just headaches” and so that people like me can get the support they need. Please see their website https://migrainetrust.org for more information about what migraines are, how they can affect people and the work the charity do.
To do this I am going to take on an Ultra challenge. I have decided to do the Isle of Wight challenge on 29 April 2023. Here I am going to walk from Chale base camp to the Needles. This is about 25km up and down the hilly coastal path of the Isle of Wight. I will be supported by my friend who is going to take this challenge on with me and I am hoping that in training for this will, it will keep me more active and therefore feeling less unwell.
As well as taking on the IoW challenge to fundraise for the migraine trust, I am also trying to share awareness of migraine in young people and the effect it can have on you. To do this I have shared my story with the migraine trust. Please follow the link to read it https://migrainetrust.org/news/why-i-want-to-help-others-with-migraine/
Thank you for reading this far, I hope to share updates about how the training is going and the walk itself and would be grateful if you could donate, however big or small to this amazing cause. Thank you
