Story
Did you know around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that’s equivalent to one person every three minutes. This means that unfortunately most of know someone with dementia, for me it’s currently my Mum and my Uncle. They were both once such vibrant, albeit quite different people. It breaks my heart seeing them deteriorate, becoming distant, muddled and losing their personalities. My Dad and Aunt soldier on caring for them, both in their 80’s proud and determined to manage without help.
During September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across the UK to raise money for a world without dementia. On
Sunday 17th September I’m going to do my bit by taking part in the 9km
walk in Peterborough. I’d really love it if you would sponsor me.
I know it’s too late for my Mum, Uncle and people of my generation but I hope that with continued research future a cure will be found and future generations won’t suffer the loss of their loved ones in this way. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we can beat this!
Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. It’s the most efficient way to raise money – saving
time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.
