We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

My mother, Margaret Baker, developed Lewy Bodies Dementia in 2013 and is now in a full time residential home.

She was mother to five of us, as well as a teacher, farmer and an amazing cook. She was vibrant, amusing, infuriatingly stubborn, intelligent, extremely well read and likeable. As children, our house was full of family and friends with Mum always producing wonderful food from her beloved red Aga. She loved nothing more than catering for a gang of cousins or friends, and we all have such happy memories of my often harassed, often cross, but always loving, mother.

Her deterioration was rapid, devastating and frightening.   There is no history of dementia in our family and we were at a loss as to how to cope. The Alzheimer's Society is a wonderful source of help, information and support as well as funding research to find a cure for this debilitating illness.

Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that’s the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia.

Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it’s the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.
