A group of staff from Midsomer Norton Primary School will taking part in the Big Bath Sleep Out on Friday 7th March to raise funds to support Julian House. We will be spending the night sleeping rough at Alice Park in Bath from 8pm - 8am
Julian House is a charity based in Bath whose aim is to eradicate the need for rough sleeping, to enable those who are homeless and those who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness to establish sustainable homes and lifestyles and to empower all users of its service to achieve their fullest potential.
At its foundation Julian House was set up to offer direct support to some of the most marginalised people in society – the homeless. Initially this was limited to offering food and shelter. Over time other projects and services have been developed which not only address the symptoms of homelessness but also the underlying reasons why men and women are forced onto the streets. Projects such as the Meaningful Occupation Project – Space2- are targeted at preventing people becoming homeless by engaging them in meaningful activities, training and preparation for employment.
Today the charity operates more than 10 projects across Bath and North East Somerset and ensures rough sleepers in Wiltshire, Swindon, Somerset and North Somerset can be reported by the public through our helpline and website. Users of their services include rough sleepers, women escaping domestic violence, ex-offenders, the long term unemployed, people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. At any one time over 100 clients are being helped by the staff team – men and women who are homeless, have recently been homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The work is often challenging and the staff and volunteers work under considerable pressure with many positive outcomes achieved.
