Story
Hari Ingman died aged just 2 of Meningitis in 2017. He was treated in Temple Street Children's Hospital.
My beautiful wife Majella died on 26th November 2021 after 13 years of illness. Our nephew Hari, from the first time we met him, only a few days old, held a special place in Majella's heart. After he passed Majella felt very strongly that he protected her and gave her great confort in her times of hardship. In return she was always very keen to fundraise in his honour for Temple Street. I am continuing Majella's wishes and running with our son Steven in memory of Majella for Hari.
Between Hari's 8th and 9th birthdays we are running 6 events (2 ultras and 4 marathons) that we are calling Majella's Memorial Marathons for Hari.
1) 17th June 2023; we will be running the 30 miles from Majella's resting place in Iniskeen to Hari's in Kentstown.
2) Dingle Marathon; 2nd September 2023; Dingle, where my mother was from, and where Majella and I spent many holidays from when we first started going out together in 1982 until our last family holiday together in 2019 before COVID.
3) Dublin Marathon; 29th October 2023; The marathon Majella most loved me doing, from my first time in 1998 until 2018 when she was an instrumental part in several of us doing it on Hari's first anniversary.
4) Iniskeen "Marathon"; 2nd March 2024; Majella is buried in Iniskeen and loved the area. When I was Ultra training several years ago I used to run 3 mile loops there and Majella and my mother would be watching for me out the window as I passed and making sure my drinks bottles were full at the gates. We will be starting at Majella's grave (next to my Mum and Dad's) and then running to the Chapel before doing 8 of those same 3 mile loops and then back to Majella, a distance of 26.6 miles. The last mile of this challang may well be the hardest of the whole 6 challanges as it will retrace Majells's last journey from Mary Mother of Mercy Church to her resting place in St Mary's Church graveyard.
5) Belfast Marathon; 5th May 2024; Despite growing up as close to Belfast as Dublin, I never stood in Belfast until Majella brought me there in September 1982 to buy me a medical book that I was unable to get in Dublin. Majella helped me so much as a medical student until I qualified 2 years after we got married and then right throughout my career.
6) 8th June 2024; We will be running the 30 miles back from Hari's resting place in Kentstown to Majella's in Iniskeen.
This 6th event will also be the 100th time I will have run the marathon distance (26.2miles) or longer.
Thank you for taking the time to read and please consider donating to the Children's Helath Foundation, Temple Street, to continue Majella's wishes in memory of Hari.
