Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well where do I start..... Taking part in the Great North Run is something I never ever anticipated doing. My family and friends will appreciate that I was never the sporty type - I always think back to my school sports days, when during the 'Obstacle Course' I got stuck under the net and cried my eyes out. I started running nearly 3 years ago and the first time I tried it, thought this isn't for me, but nevertheless I kept going and soon started to enjoy it. I received immense support from colleagues (you know who you are!) I think my family thought I must be going through a mid-life crisis or something!
Anyway, why I am doing this, well three reasons really:-
1. To support the work that Macmillan Cancer Support does - I myself, and some of my family and friends have unfortunately experienced cancer. Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face, but no one should ever have to go through it alone. Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.
2. It's about giving something back - I genuinely believe that you get to a certain time in your life, when you say 'I need to give something back.' To some extent I am doing this now as I support a Community Village Hall within a voluntary capacity. However, when I entered the Great North Run I knew this was another opportunity and so I decided to support Macmillan Cancer Support. By taking part in the Great North Run, I hope to make a difference for people affected by cancer.
3. For myself - Believe me when I say this, this will be a massive achievement for me. I didn't do all that well at school and have never felt that I have really achieved anything. Not only will this be a time for supporting Macmillan and giving something back, but it will also be a time where I can be proud of myself and what I've achieved. I also hope to make my family and friends very proud!
That's my story - thanks for reading it! Please support this very worthwhile cause - with your support we can raise money for people living with cancer - I won't let you down on the day!
