Story
We lost Mum at Christmas 2020 after a brave fight against cancer. It's very difficult to put into words how it feels to see the person that has always been the pillar of strength and stability in your life slowly grow weaker, and then having to come to terms with the fact that she would soon be taken from us.
Mum fought a good fight but like too many others, the cancer won. What is undeniable though was the support and compassion Mum, and we as a family, received from the Sue Ryder - Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading. Whether that be:
- a compassionate carer regularly calling Mum to allow her to discuss things she didn't feel comfortable talking to us about. Mum was really upset when this service was ceased due to financial restraints.
- the provision of equipment that enabled Mum to remain at home to the very end with us, truly a blessing with the COVID restrictions in place at the time.
- the amazing nurses that regularly visited Mum to the end ensuring she was comfortable and their compassionate but professional stance providing us valuable information to prepare and equip us for the inevitable.
'Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, the loss of a loved one or a neurological condition – they’re there when it matters. Their doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.'
We want to show our thanks for what Sue Ryder has done for us and ensure they can continue to provide this service to many more families like ours. So what can we do to convince you to dig deep for this worthwhile cause....
Two brothers and Woody, our 'brother from another mother' will be cycling Land's End to John O'Groats...10 days back-to-back averaging 95 miles a day. An endurance challenge that surpasses anything we have done before. That's got to be worth a few quid!
Thank you in advance for your support. Watch out for our updates on the road.
