Story
30 years ago, my nan passed away due to a sudden brain haemorrhage which had a devastating impact on my family.
I aim to complete this challenge in remembrance of her and to help those who suffer from neurological conditions.
The Brain Charity
The Brain Charity are devoted to providing extensive research into neurological conditions, supporting patients and the families of those dealing with them. This enables individuals to begin rebuilding their lives through rehabilitation, encouraging them to strive to achieve their full potential. They provide advice, and resources to those at need, aiming to support individuals both mentally and physically. The Brain Charity provide psychological support including counselling and an over the phone befriending service, aiming to promote positive mental well-being in those living with a neurological condition. They provide legal advice, as well as supporting those who are unemployed, in an attempt to provide patients with a personalised approach to integrating back into employment. The charity provides local trusts, such as the Liverpool's Women's Hospital, with ward-based support, providing patients with a point of contact to discuss their diagnosis and what to expect when living with their condition, enabling patients to cope.
Research suggests there are more than 600 neurological conditions present, with the Brain Charity being the only charity in the UK providing support for all of them. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Brain Charity provides services aimed at dealing with issues experienced by many, such as loneliness, taking both the currant climate and an individuals neurological state into consideration.
By funding further research, this will enable neurologists to identify risk factors involved, identify preventative measures and aiming to achieve more positive outcomes for those affected by these conditions.
Welsh 3000's Challenge
The iconic Welsh 3000's is an epic but brutal hiking challenge which involves reaching the summit of 15 mountains all over 3000ft inside 24 hours! Located in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, the total journey will include crossing through 3 mountain ranges, almost 4000m in ascent (half of the height of Everest) and over 30 miles in distance.
I will be attempting the Welsh 3000's Challenge alongside two other friends on the 6th of August.
Help me make every mile count. Thank you!
