POSTPONED UNTIL TUESDAY 2nd JULY AT 10:30 DUE TO FORECASTED THUNDERSTORM AND SHOULDER INJURY
In July and August this year I am leading a group of UK and Malawi teachers in running residential teaching skills share workshops in Nkhotakota, Malawi. You may know that I have done this before, it’s a project that I’m hugely passionate about and is very close to my heart. Malawi is currently the third poorest country in the world, primary schools have no electricity or running water, and can have classes of up to about 300! Despite the challenges they face, there are incredible, committed and hard-working teachers, doing their best to educate the children of Malawi, despite very little training or support.
The Diocese of Birmingham is twinned with Malawi and the skills share is run through the diocese, but is entirely independently organised and led. A teacher from each Malawian Anglican primary school will be invited to attend a residential workshop, where their travel, accommodation, meals and resources are all provided, as this would otherwise not be possible for them to attend. It’s an incredible opportunity for them to come together with other colleagues from around the country, whom they never normally get to meet with, to share good practice, a passion for teaching and developing new skills.
To help fund this, I asked decided to ask the children to suggest a challenge for me. (Something I now slightly regret!) Their suggestion was that I cartwheel along the front of the school field. If you have ever been to Blue Coat you will know this is quite a long way! I haven’t done more than one cartwheel at a time for about 30 years, so it will be quite the challenge. I’ve done quite a few runs and triathlons to raise money before, so I thought I’d try something different, and it’s certainly that!
I have no idea if it will actually be possible, but I will give it my best go! This will take place on Tuesday 2nd July at 10:30 and will be filmed if you’d like proof I attempted it! It’s an amazing project, please please donate and support us in supporting the teachers of Malawi.
