I made it!! Just to give an update...the temperature dropped that day very thankfully and it mostly went to plan. We only had one pucture in the group, several chains coming off and one bike slide on some diesel. First 15 miles were hard, but lots of water and energy gels/food consumed and we made it round. I seemed to get faster the longer I rode strangely! The lads were a great support but it was definitely a "male" cycling experience - us girls would have taken more photos and taken in the view a little more! 

Special thanks to my hubby who rode around behind me with not so much training to check I was ok generally - he was a real star.

So so pleased with all the money raised - THANK YOU SO MUCH - and I know Naomi will channel it well in the work she is involved in there.

Friends, soon I'll be joining an all male group cycling around the Isle of Wight yet thinking of women and girls in a hot and dusty Sudan. We'll be setting off at 7am and cycling from 10 - 4, landing back home for 7pm.

I'm raising money for the work my friend  Naomi is involved in - The Marol Academy for girls, and a new project they would like to get up and running. This new project would increase female retention in school by training girls in maternal and childcare at secondary level and would provide an extra value in female education that can be recognised by the community.

I read recently "If you gave me a hundred million pounds and asked me to improve the health of this country, then, ... I would spend it all on girl's education." Educate the girls and you educate the whole community in this important area of life.

800 women die in childbirth or pregnancy related illnesses every day in Sudan. One in seven die during childbirth and pregnancy.
