Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the 10k Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) in King's Lynn this weekend and am determined to run the whole distance. I set myself the challenge several months ago and have a bet on with my boyfriend that whoever finished first wins £100 from the other. This is a good incentive for me to try and beat him (especially since he has done no training!)
I am raising money for Cystic Fibrosis because while I am lucky to have been born without any disease or conditions to affect my quality of life, there are plenty of youngsters who have not been so lucky. My boyfriend’s nephew is one of these children who remains the sweetest little boy despite the condition.
Cystic Fibrosis is a terrible is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. It is caused by a faulty gene that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of the cells within the body.
Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food. Over 9,000 people in the UK have Cystic Fibrosis.
Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis.
Each week, two young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.
Currently half of the CF population will live past 41 years of age, and improvements in treatments mean a baby born today is expected to live even longer.
