Story
I will be running the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 27th September 2015 in aid of Myositis UK, for a very special and inspirational man in my life, my Dad.
My Dad is terminally ill with a rare condition called Inclusion Body Myositis, which is a severe muscle wasting disease. He was first diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis in 2003 and it has so far had a significant and debilitating effect on his day to day life.
Over the past couple of years I have watched this disease attack my Dad both physically and emotionally, where he is now dependent on a wheelchair and full time care by myself, my Mum and Sister. Our life has changed dramatically which has been emotionally challenging, but this has only made us stronger as a family.
Myositis affects thousands of people in the UK, young and old. It can be life threatening and almost always disabling. Myositis UK is currently the only UK charity that concentrates on this condition, providing support for sufferers and funding for research. The Group has already donated many thousands of pounds for research projects, but this only scratches the surface of the problem. We need to do more as there is still no cure, and in many cases no treatment either.
Despite everything my Dad has been through he has never once complained about the disease that changed his life and unselfishly puts his family first in everything.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, any donation you can make will be really appreciated.
