Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been given an amazing opportunity to raise money for Epilepsy action who have given me an a spot to run in the London marathon in October 2021 ! With 2020 putting a lot of running events on hold or cancelled I’d like to end 2021 on a high doing this great run to help epilepsy action.

Epilepsy action is a personal charity who have helped me throughout my diagnosis of epilepsy when I was 21 I’m now 30 and still seek their support. Epilepsy affects around 600,000 people a year which is around 1-100 people, and also around 87 people Diagnosed a day ! This is a hidden disability which needs more understanding and information, epilepsy action provides training materials/days for schools and workplaces but also personal support for carers and people with a diagnosis of epilepsy and need continuous support to be able to provide this help !

They also help in research into diagnosis and treatments, the more research into treatments and side effects, effectiveness the better a persons lifestyle will be living with epilepsy. People only see what epilepsy does physically but mentally this is a tiring disability and this charity helps recognise triggers, symptoms, side effects and how to help people with different types of epilepsy. Their goal is to push for a more positive outlook on epilepsy !

I was diagnosed when I was 21 and at that age I was anxious, upset, angry and scared,  because I didn’t know much about it and how it would effect me and what people would think of me.. what I could/couldn’t do now I had that diagnosis ! The mixture of different treatments we have tried over the years to get it under control is endless...but I want to help other people and this charity will help !  i don’t have triggers so I’m completely unaware when I am having one and then feel completely drained. Epilepsy wipes small memories made when you having seizures but also causes memories issues in general. Emotions don’t ever feel the same and I still always feel self conscious when I’ve had one because of the loss of control.. but epilepsy action helped me give people a better understanding.

I know it’s a big target but I want to do anything I can raise this ! I’ll be doing raffles, bake sales, appealing on social media and keeping people updated on the training !  Anything you can give will be welcomed warmly

Training is coming along and I’m sticking to a nice build up on the duration and distance. Epilepsy action have just celebrated a lovely day on the 26th and some great personal stories have been told ! I’ve know there is some amazing people out there overcoming and also struggling with epilepsy but this charity can help !

Currently on week 6 on my 29 week programme, the dream Is still to run Disney but one step at a time, overworked my leg muscles at the beginning of the week and was quite painful but since then did a recovery run l!
