I have been lucky enough to secure a place in April 2024s London Marathon. I am running for the Fire Fighter Charity in memory of our much loved friend, Kenny Wong.

As many of you know Kenny sadly lost his brave and courageous two year fight to Cancer in April this year.

Kenny and I first met when I was 16, we both worked at Alvaston Hall, I was a waitress and Kenny was a pot washer. Over the years we have spent lots of time together, nights out, camping, holidays abroad, memories of which I will cherish. Kenny was hilarious and loved to wind people up, his smile would light up any room and there was no mistaking his distinctive laugh which was infectious. Kenny was also massively fit, he completed many Marathons, including New York, Chicargo and Paris and has been one of the reasons I wanted to do this in his memory.

In 2006 Kenny joined the Fire Service, he loved his job and was obviously very well liked amongst the teams he worked alongside. The Fire Service have been amazingly supportive to both Kenny and his young family throughout his Cancer journey.

The Fire Firefighter Charity support Firefighters and their familys past and present in a number of ways, including facilities which allow rest, rehab and recuperation. Whilst Kenny was unwell Kenny, Gretta, Louie and Leo were able to to spend the week in one of these facilites in the Lake District, this allowed them to spend precious time with one another which I know memories of which they will treasure forever. Gretta and the boys can continue to access support from the Charity even though Kenny is no longer with us.

The money I raise will be used to help and support people through difficult times as they did with Kenny. I intend on doing a fundraising night which I am in the process of organising in the Autumn. Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small.
