Hello, My name is Lucy Hurst and I am 15 years old. 

In October of this year, I am hoping to travel to Uganda with thirty other students from my school, to work with the Retrak Street Kids Program in Kampala. This organisation helps bring hope to many innocent young boys, who have been forced into lives on the streets. The program has a drop-in centre where the boys can recieve a daily meal, talk to social workers about becoming fostered or returning home, sustain an education, use cleaning facilities, have access to medical treatment and most importantly interact with others and have some fun!

I am very excited to be working a long side this program to help create a play scheme for the children and young adults. I know it is going to be very different to what I have ever experienced before, as many of the boys have backgrounds of abuse. But I am up for the challenge! 

In 2011 and 2012, I travelled to Ethiopia to work in a kindergarten school with 3-7 year olds. I loved both times so much. I love working with children and seeing the forgotten smiles on so many young faces was heartwarming. 

To go on this trip to Uganda, I have to fundraise £1,350! I know this is a massive amount of money, so I am doing different fundraising events this year. These include: sitting in baked beans for a day, a sponsored walk, a raffle and a sponsored photo shoot by Deborah Hurst Photography.
