Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2013 my Dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. We had never heard of it. A fit, healthy, non smoking, life long sportsman, Dad was told he had terminal lung cancer. This was caused by unknown exposure to asbestos at some point in his 20's most likely, some 40 years ago. This condition is relatively rare thankfully, but like everyone else who is affected by cancer, that is no comfort when it affects your loved ones. With relatively little known about this type of cancer, and no cure available, Mesothelioma UK was a great source of information and support to our family. Through their advice and guidance and my Mum's endless research, Dad has been able to access pioneering surgery, chemotherapy and take part in a clinical trial to hold back the clock. We are fortunate and eternally grateful that he continues to be an active and much loved Husband, Dad and Grandad.
On May 31st alongside 4 great friends I will be taking part in the Outlaw Half Iron Man in Nottingham. My aim is to raise funds for Mesothelioma UK so they can continue the amazing work they do supporting families in the most difficult of times. Our challenge is to complete a 1.2 mile open water swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.2 mile half marathon to finish, in under 8 and a half hours before they close the course! Any donation will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you!
Lucy
